If my company, a US company, wanted to barter with a European company and trade goods for goods, would that be a way to avoid the very negative exchange rate problem that we face right now with Europe?

Yes it would since you are trading value for value. The challenge may be to agree upon what the value of each product is. For example, could the European barter partner be better off selling his product, taking the money and potentially buying your product for less. Worth checking into.

I have $ 4000 cash but Im looking at cars in the $ 11,000-$ 14,000 range so I need a little financing. Whats the best way to get a deal and do I still have the ability to barter the price down if I need financing? Or is that only when you have 100% cash?

How you are paying has no direct value on the price you are paying for the vehicle.
The dealer gets all of their money, upfront, through you paying them or your lender paying them (financing), so it doesn’t matter to them.

Unless you are going to pay 100% cash for a car, you need to shop for financing just like you shop for a car. This means getting approved by your bank or credit union (credit unions have better rates) before stepping foot into a dealership.

Finance guys at dealerships get kickbacks by working with certain lenders, so they will offer you a rate based on what is best for them, even if it means you pay more because the interest rate is higher. A credit union will give you a rate that is best for you. Plus, you can use it as a comparable or a negotiating tool if you choose to finance through the dealer.

I guess if you wanted to buy somthing like a car. You would have to get on the bus with cows or somthing go to car dealership after car dealer ship until you find someone selling a car that also wants cows.

Main problem is that you need what they want and they need what you want.

Hey, I think you should bring everything you don’t need anymore but is still in good condition. Like books or dvds or clothes. But if you need some more inspiration take a look at barterquest.com (an online site I barter on) You can see there what people are offering and searching for.
